The Federal Work-Study program provides part-time jobs to students with financial aid eligibility. Your eligibility depends on your financial need, other types of aid you receive, and the availability of work-study funds and positions.
You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate academic year. After you are awarded, contact the Financial Aid Office by email at FinancialAid@clayton.edu to be reviewed for eligibility.
You will be notified by email regarding your work-study eligibility. If eligible, you will be placed on the waiting list. A student must have a minimum amount of remaining financial need to be placed on the waiting list. This minimum is determined annually. There is no guarantee of employment if you are placed on the waiting list. Placement is dependent upon availability of funds and positions.
The waiting list does not roll over to the next academic year. You must contact the Financial Aid Office by email at FinancialAid@clayton.edu after you are awarded to be placed on the list for the next academic year.

Work-study jobs are available in many on-campus offices. There are also mentor positions located in several local elementary schools during the school year. More information on the mentor program can be found here.
One important note - evening and weekend work-study positions are rarely available.
No, but you must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to participate in the work-study program.
The entry level salary for on-campus positions is $8.00 an hour and $9.00 for off-campus mentor positions. The number of hours you can work will depend on your eligibility but would be no more than 19.5 hours per week. You receive a paycheck every two weeks for the hours that you work.
Please note that work-study students can only be paid for hours worked according to federal regulations. Therefore, work-study students cannot be paid for studying while at work or estimate their work hours.
Your financial aid will be reviewed for the next term or academic year. If you are enrolled, making Satisfactory Academic Progress, are eligible for federal financial aid, have the minimum unmet need, and the department where employed still requires a work-study student, you may be awarded work-study for the next term or academic year.
What else do I need to know?
You will be able to select a position that interests you but you must interview, have the necessary skills, and meet any other department requirements. A background check is required for all work-study positions at no cost to you.
Keep in mind that there is a waiting list for work-study positions. Every effort is made to place as many eligible students as possible, but there is no guarantee of employment. Placement is dependent on availability of funds and positions.

You will be contacted at your Clayton State email account if positions or funds become available. That email will contain the information you will need to begin your search for a work-study position. You will have approximately one week to respond to the notification and express your interest in the program. If there is no response within the set timeframe, you will be removed from the waiting list.

All hours worked will be submitted through the online ADP system. Those hours must be approved by your supervisor by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday that ends the pay period. In order to receive your paycheck, you must use the online ADP system, and your hours must be approved by your supervisor. Please note that there will be no exceptions.
Please note that rounding rules apply to both in and out punches in the online ADP system. If a punch is recorded within the first 7 minutes of a 15 minute interval, the punch is rounded back to the interval start. If the punch occurs at 8 minutes or later, it rounds to the start of the next interval.
If you are scheduled to begin working at 8:00 AM, any punch between 8:00 AM and 8:07 AM rounds back to 8:00 AM. Any punch from 8:08 AM to 8:14 AM rounds forward to 8:15 AM.
