College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of subject-based exams that may allow you to receive academic credit for content you already know or have studied elsewhere. If you score well enough on the exam you sign up to take, you would receive the equivalent credit as taking and passing the full semester course. Many different subject exams are available, and study guides are available for $10 each.
If you speak Spanish, French or German, and you are required to take a foreign language class to graduate, you might “CLEP out” of that requirement. Instead of paying $2687.00 in out-of-state tuition for a 3 credit hour undergraduate course + 1 hour lab, you would only pay $97.00* for the equivalent CLEP exam. This is a savings of $2590.00!
*$20 registration fee + $77 testing fee = $97
