International students on F-1 or J-1 visas who are in good status are eligible to work on campus under the following restrictions:
Authorization by USCIS is required before any off-campus employment can begin. Any other off-campus work is illegal and can seriously put your F1 student status and presence in the U.S. at risk.

Your work authorization is called Academic Training and is authorized by your host or sponsor. J1 students at Clayton State are currently processed through the Board of Regents.
J-1 students have the opportunity to gain up to 18 months of work experience related to their field of study either during or after their academic program, but the time spent in training cannot exceed the time spent in their program of study. To qualify, students must obtain a written recommendation from their academic dean or adviser and written authorization from the J1 host.
